Home terror for TV's Baz as gang of raiders smash into house with concrete slab

PRESENTER Baz Ashmawy has revealed how he tackled a gang of raiders who burst into his home in broad daylight.

The RTE host was stunned when a bunch of thugs attempted to break into his Rathmines pad while he and his family were in the house.

The 37-year-old Extreme World's frontman ran to the defence of his fiancee Tanya Evans and their young daughter Hannah, after three men smashed into the couple's Dublin home.

While Baz's other half and baby girl sheltered upstairs, the broadcaster put his experience on the series, which has seen him delve into the worlds of cage-fighting and high-security prisons, to good use.

"I was on the phone upstairs and Tanya was shouting at me to go down and check because she thought she heard a noise.

"You never expect to actually see anything but I went down and there were three lads standing there.

"They took a concrete slab and used it to smash through the double glazing."

Speaking on The Tubridy Show, Baz admitted he was stunned when he found the trio in his living room, but was quick to react.

"One guy was in the living room, one was coming through the broken glass and the other guy was in the garden.

"I was standing there thinking, 'what do I do?' I have baseball bats and that round the house but they're for night-time, not one in the afternoon.

"I just shouted at them and ran and the big guy must have gotten such a shock because he started pushing the other guy back out the window.

"I chased them out of the back garden and down the alleyway."

The part-Egyptian DJ, who co-hosts his 2fm weekend show with pregnant star Lucy Kennedy, feared the worst last year, when he discovered he had a hereditary condition after one of his lungs collapsed on a flight from London to Dublin.

The presenter underwent double-lung surgery and has now made a full recovery.
