Gerald and Lisa jet to Algarve to cheer up after robbery hell
Legal eagle Gerald Kean (53) is whisking his traumatised fiancee Lisa Murphy (38) away for a holiday in Portugal tomorrow in a bid to cheer her up.
And he also revealed to the Diary that the couple, who were last month robbed of €1.5m worth of jewellery, haven't given up hope of recovering the stash after a new lead turned up.
He was flying solo after turning up to the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby at the Curragh without his head-turning other half.
Explaining that she "just wasn't up to it", he added how he's hoping a trip to the sun-kissed Algarve tomorrow might revive her spirits.
"She decided not to come in the end as she just felt it would be a bit too much for her. It was her brother Paul's 10th anniversary mass this morning so the whole family were going to that. She is doing a lot better than I expected but she's still not 100pc," he said.
"We were down at a golfing fundraiser event for Mayfield GAA club in Cork on Friday but the weather was so bad, we didn't even get out to play.
"We're heading off to Portugal tomorrow for a bit of a holiday and Lisa's really looking forward to that."
And the cigar-chomping lawyer added that there may be a glimmer of hope for them when it comes to recovering the stash stolen by a gang of masked men from their Wicklow home.
"The gardai have done a brilliant job, they are still making inquiries about it and as far as we know, the jewellery hasn't gone abroad yet so we'll just have to cross our fingers and see what happens," he said.
Kean, who's an ambassador for Dubai's prestigious Burj Al Arab hotel, was one of a number of well-known guests lunching in style at the VIP Pavilion at the Curragh yesterday.
Other attendees included RTE rugby commentator Brent Pope, who lamented how he had no winners on the track.
"That's unusual because my mum actually breeds horses in New Zealand so I should have more luck but it's been a super day so far," he said.
Taking it easy now until rugby coverage resumes in August, he also revealed that he's not being sent to report on the action as they "don't have the budget."
Also there was RTE presenter Daithi O Se, who has just flown back from a romantic holiday away with girlfriend Rita Talty. The pair were over soaking up the sunshine in Italy and Spain before flying to her home town of New Jersey.
"I left her over there but I'm going back shortly for another two weeks and then it's home for the Galway Races and the Rose of Tralee," he said.
Blazing sunshine and warm temperatures helped ensure massive crowds turned up at the Kildare event for some racing action -- and to check out the style.
Among those looking glamorous as always was stylist Celia Holman Lee, who was dressed in a blue-green outfit from Kadee boutique in Athlone.
