Fassbender is our hero, says movie world
MICHAEL Fassbender has been officially dubbed a hero by the movie industry.
The Kerryman bagged himself the Hero Award at the Jameson Empire Film Awards last night, which took place at London's Grosvenor Hotel.
Michael, casually dressed in jeans, an open shirt and blazer, won the award for his role as Magneto in X-Men: First Class.
"This is kind of unusual, because the first job I wanted to do was be Superman, so a hero award is official now," he said as he accepted his trophy.
It was certainly a successful night for the Irish, as 20-year-old Evanna Lynch saw her film Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part Two take home the top prize for Best Film. The Louth native played Luna Lovegood in the hit blockbuster series.
Showing off her newly blonde tresses, Evanna posed happily on the red carpet with members of the cast, including Bonnie Wright and Matthew Lewis, looking stunning in a red prom-style dress with black high heels.
Bridesmaids star Chris O'Dowd also turned up at the bash, and his pal and Moone Boy co-star Johnny Vegas arrived with Irish wife Maia Dunphy, who hails from Dalkey, resplendent in red.
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy received the Best British Film and Best Actor prizes. Director Tim Burton was awarded the Empire Legend award and The Inbetweeners Movie was named Best Comedy of the year.
