Dubliner Sonya gets set for Oscars glory
This is the Irish actress who nabbed a part in the acclaimed movie The Artist, which is expected to sweep the boards at the Oscars this month.
And sexy starlet Sonya Macari (32) has said she's "thrilled" to have played a part in the acclaimed silent movie as the countdown to the 84th Academy Awards begins.
The LA-based sister of socialite Virginia Macari managed to nab a small role in the quirky French film, which has received an impressive 10 Oscar nominations.
And Sonya, who starred in The Tudors, said she's keeping her fingers crossed that the flick, set in 1920s Hollywood and starring Jean Dujardin with Berenice Bejo, will get the credit it merits.
"I played the role of Berenice Bejo's friend in it and we shot the scenes on the lot of Universal Studios," she told the Herald.
"Myself and Berenice had a couple of other scenes together which ended up on the cutting room floor -- but that's the way it goes sometimes.
"I also made it into the trailer which is great as it was shown at the Golden Globes and will also be shown at the Oscars."
She added how the cast and crew of the film couldn't have been any nicer. "Berenice was lovely to work with as was Jean and the director Michael Hazanavicius. We had a couple of very long days on the Universal lot, all ending around 6am the next morning. It was all pretty relaxed, in a French sort of way. I think we all knew we were working on something special so I'm delighted to be a part of it and am thrilled that it's getting the recognition it deserves."
But she won't be strutting down the red carpet -- she's flying back home to Ireland at the end of the month as her sister Virginia is due to give birth to her first baby.
Sonya also has her nuptials to plan as she's engaged to Irish musician Colin Devlin.
