Dervla set to come home for new drama

ACTRESS Dervla Kirwan could soon be making a move back to the Emerald Isle if plans to direct her own Irish drama come to fruition.

The former Ballykissangel star says she is in talks with a production company in the hope of securing funding to both produce and star in a new Irish television series early next year.

Dervla (39) explained how she was also keen to show her two young children their Irish culture and teach them about their roots.

"It would be my great ambition in life to bring a drama series to Ireland that I would produce," she told the Herald.

"I'm busy trying to make it happen at the moment, but obviously it's not easy in the current climate to secure the financial backing it takes.

"The acting industry has been particularly affected by the economic downturn but hopefully I'll be able to persuade someone to take a chance. We really felt it 18 months or two years ago. I was filming a film called Luna and suddenly all the funding fell out and it had to be called off. There will be a point where things improve though and I would like to spend some time at home. My kids are half Irish and half English so it's very important to me that they know their heritage."

Dervla went on to explain how she would love to land a part in new period drama Camelot or RTE restaurant series Raw, which she avidly follows in the UK.

She has signed up to star in ITV's new drama Injustice, with James Purefoy.
