Delay for Glen's stage play
THE Broadway adaptation of Glen Hansard's movie Once is unlikely to be staged this year due to unforeseen delays, the Diary can reveal.
The film picked up the Oscar for Best Original Song in 2007 for Falling Slowly, and it was not long before award-winning producers bought the rights to adapt it for live theatre.
The low-budget hit made stars out of Hansard and his then partner, singer-songwriter Marketa Irglova.
While Broadway sources had reported that the musical would be released by the end of this year, the Diary has learned that it is now unlikely to come out before spring 2011 at the earliest.
A well-informed source has suggested that the project has been delayed by complications.
"I can't see it coming out this year for sure," a source told the Diary.
"As far as I know, the Broadway guys that are trying to bring it to the stage are still ploughing on with it. It just seems to take a long time to come to fruition with a musical."
"I'm sure there might be more hurdles along the way, but it's in their hands and good luck to them.
"I would have heard if the premiere was this winter," she added.
