Brippa miss concert . . so Brian crooned Take That
BEAUTIFUL bride Pippa O'Connor didn't mind missing her favourite band Take That at Croke Park this weekend -- as her new husband Brian Ormond sang her one of the boyband's hits on their wedding day.
The Herald can reveal how the romantic TV presenter surprised his new wife by taking to the stage at their wedding reception at the Ritz Carlton in Enniskerry on Saturday evening and serenading her with his own rendition of the band's hit A Million Love Songs.
Despite previously vowing that he would not be returning to his singing days, former You're A Star contestant Brian planned the performance as a special surprise for his other half, who was disappointed when she learned that the chart-topping band's visit to Dublin clashed with her wedding.
Brian's best man and co-star on the RTE talent show Mickey Joe Harte also had his moment in the spotlight when he sang a version of the romantic Lady Antebellum hit When You've Got A Good thing for the couple's first dance.
And the rest of their guests weren't far behind them when it came to hitting the floor, with the ballroom transformed into a white themed nightclub after dinner.
Irish soccer captain Robbie Keane was among the first on his feet, as he let his hair down alongside former Irish rugby player Shane Byrne, before taking his gorgeous wife Claudine for a whirl later.
"The transformation from dining room to nightclub was really impressive and must have set them back thousands," said one wedding guest. "They had a white carpet put down across half the room and a white dancefloor with neon lights underneath.
"The Camembert Quartet played first and then after that a DJ came on. Shortly after midnight everyone was whisked outside to the balcony for an impressive fireworks display.
"They really pulled out all the stops to make sure that they and their guests had a memorable day," they added.
Among the crew of catwalk queens who turned up for the evening festivities was Michele McGrath, Nadia Forde, Kristi Kuudisiim, Rozanna Purcell, Georgia Salpa and Daniella Moyles to name but a few.
Pippa's former model agent Derek Daniels was also in attendance, along with Krystle's Conor Buckley, socialite Annette Rocca, Michael O'Doherty, Laura Woods and usher at the ceremony Brian Dowling.
And while the celebrations continued into the early hours at the Ritz Carlton, the loved-up newlyweds didn't have any time for a lie-in yesterday, given that they were up bright and early to complete their exclusive interview with VIP magazine.
The glossy magazine, which is due to hit the shelves this Thursday will feature a 14-page spread on their wedding, with a picture of the happy couple on the front cover.
The celebrations continued for Brian and Pippa last night when they hosted an intimate barbecue at the Ritz Carlton for close family and friends. The couple will jet to Bali and Singapore on a honeymoon later this week.
