Big-hearted Bono hands over those iconic sunglasses to support Lillie's charity night

BIG-hearted Bono has donated a pair of his famous sunglasses to support an Irish hospice.

Lillie's Bordello hostess Hayley Rock is helping organise a charity event for the St Francis Hospice, which cares for people in the advanced stages of cancer and motor neuron disease.

She has revealed how one of her oldest pals, Emma Louise Walsh, passed away from cancer in May when she was just 27 years old. The fundraising night will be held on Sunday, which would have been her 28th birthday.

"Everyone knows someone who has had cancer or been affected by it at some stage. It hits home with everyone and this is such a fantastic charity, we really wanted to do something to help them," she said.

Having worked at the club for the past five years, Hayley has built up an enviable collection of contacts and now counts the U2 frontman as a close colleague.

"I would know him from being in the club so much and we would have built up a very good relationship over the years," she said.

"He was more than happy to help us out by giving him a pair of his sunglasses, which was so nice of him."

The crooner, who has resumed touring with the band after his back surgery, donated a pair of his most iconic glasses, from the band's performance at the Rose Bowl in California last summer. It marked their biggest-ever US show with a live audience of more than 97,000 fans.

And with Hayley's older brother Jim a famous boxer, she has also managed to get her mitts on a Bernard Dunne boxing glove alongside a signed Dublin GAA jersey.

"I would love to make €20,000 from the night but anything we get is a bonus. We're hoping to get about €400-500 from the night so fingers crossed it goes well. Loads of our usual regulars will be coming as well as a few of the girls from the agency, it looks like it will be a fantastic night," she added.
