Apprentice winner reveals his secret fears for mum
BILL Cullen's new Apprentice has spoken of his delight at working with the celebrity businessman.
Eugene Heary, who turned 31 on Saturday, was revealed as the winner of Bill's €200,000 investment last night.
Eugene has not had it easy in recent times, going into the Apprentice house just a day after his beloved mum Joan had an operation to remove a brain tumour.
"To be honest I was thinking, 'Should I go in?' but my mum is a very strong woman," Mr Heary said. On his mother's advice, he took the plunge.
"She said she wanted me to do it so that she would have something to look forward to when she came around from the operation," said Eugene, from Sallins in Co Kildare.
He revealed that mother and son said their goodbyes "in case things had gone wrong". Thankfully, Joan is recovering well now.
Eugene found a friend in fellow contestant Maurice O'Callaghan, whose dad was also ill.
"I could relate to Maurice because he had a similar situation and I would like to thank him for what he did," he said.
"My mum had been through a lot and I wanted to do it for her as well. She's very proud of me -- my whole family are."
Mr Cullen said he was delighted he and Eugene are going into business together. He described Eugene as "quietly efficient" on the show.
