... but Kevin Doyle's wedding will be a WAG-free affair

Republic of Ireland international Kevin Doyle has vowed his bride-to-be, Jennifer Harney, will not be joining the WAG brigade when the couple wed.

The Wolves player claims his long-term girlfriend despises the derogatory term and has no desire to be known as the next Victoria Beckham, Cheryl Cole or Coleen Rooney after they walk down the aisle in June.

Kevin says that Jennifer, who like him is from Wexford, has a well-established career in her own right, as an industrial designer, and has no intention of giving it up once they are married.

"Jennifer definitely isn't a WAG," he told the Herald. "She doesn't like that term at all. In fact, most of the players' wives and girlfriends hugely dislike that term. It's the last thing Jen would want to be known as and I think it is a bit of a negative stereotype.

"Jennifer always had her own career so being known as a WAG is not something she aspires to."

The loved-up couple will swap vows in Limerick, with the reception due to take place in the five-star Adare Manor Hotel.

However, Kevin is adamant that his own nuptials will be a far more low-key affair than those of his team-mate, Robbie Keane. The Irish soccer team's captain married Claudine Palmer at a lavish affair in Killiney, followed by a star-studded after-party at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Wicklow.

The couple were approached about selling the rights to their wedding to celebrity magazine OK for a six figure sum, but turned it down.

"We won't be doing any magazine deals," said Kevin. "I think that could really put a curse on a wedding. It puts too much pressure on it and that's not what it should be about. Besides no one wants me," he joked.

The couple have yet to decide on a destination for their honeymoon, but Kevin is adamant they won't be going to South Africa.

"She'd love it if I brought her to the World Cup for our honeymoon," he laughed. "We were due to get married the summer after this but thanks to Thierry Henry I had a big gap this summer so it made sense to move it forward."

Kevin was in town yesterday to promote the fact that ESPN will be broadcast free to all Chorus NTL digital customers from tomorrow at 6am until Monday January 25 at 6am.

The channel will now come as standard as part of its Digital Max and Select Extra TV packs.
