Apocalypse Now

One of the greatest war movies ever made, Francis Ford Coppola's adaptation of Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness takes us to the jungles of Vietnam (the book was set in central Africa) for a crazed, almost psychedelic account of the horrors of conflict. Martin Sheen plays an army assassin sent to eliminate Marlon Brando's rogue Colonel Kurtz but the film is stolen by Robert Duvall (left)as a surf-crazy commander. Astonishing and unforgettable.
