Of course, French stand by result

The French media has got behind Thierry Henry as the row rumbles on.

A headline in the Le Parisien newspaper read: "France Ireland: Domenech pleads 'Not Guilty'." In the article below, the French coach said that he cannot understand the reaction in Ireland.

French football magazine L'Equipe went with the headline: "Henry 'the cheat' is defended."

The article went on to say sports officials in France had defended the player.

A leading former French player who played against the Irish when Henry's goal defeated us at Landsdowne Road, has rubbished calls for a video ref.

Le Figaro newspaper led with a story about the political storm that has been created by the handball debacle, headlined: "France-Ireland: Henry's hand has became an affair of the State."

The paper France Soir said the French players may be afraid to take to the field in South Africa in light of the incident.

"World Cup 2010 leaves the blues in a cold sweat," their headline read. It went on to say: "In a total loss of serenity against the Irish, certain French players are afraid to set foot on South Africa".
