Wright set to rattle the big guns

World Matchplay Darts

The World Matchplay gets underway at the Winter Gardens in Brighton tomorrow evening with Phil Taylor looking for a seventh consecutive Matchplay title and a 15th in total.

The second seed is unbeaten in this tournament since 2007 and is a best priced 7/2 with Boylesports ahead of kicking off against Darren Webster on Sunday evening.

Top seed and favourite Michael van Gerwen will begin his quest at a first win in the Matchplay when meeting Steve Beaton tomorrow evening, while Fermanagh's Brendan Dolan will also be in first round action on Sunday when playing Welshman Richie Burnett.

World Champion van Gerwen is 2/1 favourite to dethrone Phil Taylor in the outright market and while it is hard to pick value from the first round matches, a little each way wager on Peter Wright at 20/1 may yield some profit.

The eccentric Wright has a tough opening round clash against Stephen Bunting but once he gets over that hurdle he could go a long way in the Matchplay.

BETTING:

Michael van Gerwen 2/1, Phil Taylor 7/2, Adrian Lewis 8/1, Gary Anderson 11/1, James Wade 12/1, Raymond van Barneveld 14/1, Peter Wright 20/1, 33/1 Bar
