Two out of three ain't bad for Dubs at fab festival

TRINITY brought the Giles Cup back to the lush lawns of College Park.

They beat Athlone IT, 1-16 to 1-9 in the final at Cork IT.

Dublin's Sarah McCaffrey played brilliantly. She capped her display with two points.

The exciting Dublin forward, Nicole Owens, contributed 1-2.

Another Dub, Stacey Flood, also got on the score-board with two points.

DCU made it a Dublin double as they returned to the capital with the Lynch Cup.

It's the third time that the trophy will reside in the Glasnevin trophy cabinet.

They defeated DIT in the Dublin derby. DIT's Amy Ring was the top-scorer with seven points, five coming from play.

DCU won it by 2-13 to 1-10, with their goals coming from Kate Caulfield and Nicole Feery.

Meanwhile, in the big one, University of Limerick retained the prestigious O'Connor Cup.

They overcame DCU with a polished performance that saw them hit 3-16 to 0-9.

In Friday's semi-final at the Cork venue, DCU had toppled the hosts.

But UL were the pre-tournament favourites, and they certainly lived up to that billing.

And the weekend action in the three competitions underlined the quality of the third level structure.
