The bells of St Mary's set to wake up the Cody Cats

ST MARY'S are doing a sponsored cycle next month. All are welcome to take part.

It goes from Saggart to Kilkenny. It takes place on Saturday, June 27, at 10am. The cyclists will stay overnight in Kilkenny and return by coach.

They will stay at the Newpark Hotel. The €75 cost includes dinner, bed and breakfast, plus the coach. The cycle is to raise funds to develop a training pitch.

"Last year we lost our training pitch after 40 years when the new national school was built," explains Pat Farrelly.

"Our parish priest has very kindly allowed us the use of a new piece of land between the church and our home pitch."

"We now need to raise the funds to make it suitable for football training," adds Pat.

"We now have over 400 juveniles, and another 75 in our Academy. Our juvenile committee, along with our GPO, Peter Elliott, are doing fantastic work.

"We are hoping to make the event a huge success. It's a very important fundraiser."

To book a place, please contact Pat Farrelly (086-0454434) or Brendan Murray (086-0401169).

Mick puts foot to the pedal

THE great Mick Mangan is also taking to the bike. Mick hurled for Crumlin and Dublin.

He's overcome many health setbacks with the grit of an Olympic champion.

He has set up a charity with Dublin legend David Hickey to support those living with kidney failure. It's called Patient to Patient Shared Experiences.

Mick will be doing the Jimmy Boggan Memorial Cycle on Saturday, July 25. It will raise funds for Crumlin's juveniles.

On the morning of the cycle, a bus leaves O'Toole Park to bring the riders. The bikes are transported in a van.

Then the riders leave Jim's birth place, Taghmon, in Wexford, and cycle back to O'Toole Park.

To take part, contact Mick (086-3090674) or another All-Ireland champion Ruth Lyons (087-6294307).
