Vidic: City have an obsession for trophy
CASH crazy Manchester City have spent a fortune to fund an obsession but they’re still playing catch-up, according to United skipper Nemanja Vidic.
“Manchester City have an obsession about winning a trophy. After the big money they have spent, they want to win their first trophy,” said Vidic who taunted City with a list of Manchester United’s recent achievements.
“In the last few years we have had a lot of success. We have always been in quarter-finals, semi-finals, two Champions League finals.
“We are playing at the top level. Every team wants to do their best against us. But we will be ready.”
While Vidic questioned the club’s credentials, Rio Ferdinand weighed in with a scornful reproach for Eastland’s sulkers.
“You don’t see anyone come off the pitch shaking their head, being disgruntled, or sitting on the bench in a sulk at this club,” Ferdinand said.
“It won’t happen here because everyone is delighted to play for this club and they want to be here. The moment you show a bit of dissent like that, the manager pulls rank, and rightly so.”
Vidic, however, has warned against complacency United face a Carlos Tevez-free City at Wembley.
“It is not an advantage for us that City are unlikely to have Tevez fit,” said the 29-year-old.
“They will still have quality players up front and we never underestimate any players we play against. Dzeko and Tevez are not the same player. Obviously Dzeko is a goalscorer who looks to play in the box and get on the end of crosses. He is a target man whereas Tevez likes to play on the ball and comes deep.”
Vidic believes that City are desperate to win and end a 35-year obsession by going all the way in the FA Cup.
He added: “Manchester City have an obsession about winning a trophy,” said the Serbian.
