When the news of Brendan Rodgers' departure broke at 6.30pm on Sunday night, Twitter was soon awash with reaction.

Here, we look at how social media responded to Sunday's second Barclays Premier League sacking.

Gary Lineker @GaryLineker - "Rodgers and out!"

Jimmy Bullard @jimmybullard - "Blimey just seen the Brendan Rodgers news! Didn't see that coming!"

Craig Burley @CBurleyESPN - "Said 2/3 years ago in my Sunday Mail column Rodgers would be found out and seen through. Progressive coach my backside."

Lord Sugar @Lord_Sugar - "Rodgers was over rated Suarez made him look good . Since he left LFC went down hill."

Mark Ogden @MOgdenTelegraph - "Personal view is that Rodgers harshly sacked by Lpool. Until they compete financially, will be an impossible job for most managers..."

The talk soon turned to who might replace the Northern Irishman at Anfield, with Carlo Ancelotti and Jurgen Klopp strongly favoured.

Don Hutchinson @donhutch4 - "Brendan Rodgers gone. Only two names Ancheloti or Klopp"

Sally Nugent @sallynugent - "So #Rodgers sacked by LFC. Someone else must be ready to come in surely ?"

Jan Aage Fjortoft @JanAageFjortoft - "Rodgers fired!!!! No Klopp news yet....."
