Brighton manager Chris Hughton insists Richie Towell still has a future at the promoted Premier League club.

Former Irish international Hughton, however, plans to send the 25-year-old Dubliner on loan to a Championship club next season to give him some valuable game time that was so lacking this season.

The former Dundalk star has had limited opportunities at the Amex Stadium since making the move from the Lilywhites in January 2016.

He featured in two FA Cup games this season but failed to make a league start as Brighton clinched promotion to the top flight, finishing in second place behind champions Newcastle.

Following the Seagulls' promotion of the Premier League, Hughton revealed he wants Towell to play first-team football next season in English football's second tier.

Hughton, who won 53 caps for Ireland, said: "Players like Rohan (Ince) and Richie will go out on loan. We have been really delighted with Richie but we are very keen for him to get out on loan to the Championship next season."

Towell started pre-season last summer in flying form, however a knee injury hampered his progress.
