Celtic manager Gordon Strachan insists Manchester City's remarkable £108m bid for AC Milan star Kaka will have no impact on Scottish football.

While City continued their pursuit of the Brazilian with money apparently no obstacle, Strachan confirmed he had brought in United States international Sacha Kljestan as a trialist.

The Celtic boss's involvement in the January transfer window so far has been to recruit 21-year-old Niall McGinn from Derry City and 18-year-old Czech defender Milan Misun.

The SPL champions have also signed Dundee United goalkeeper Lukasz Zaluska on a pre-contract agreement.

Strange

Joking about Kaka, Strachan retorted, "We just missed out on him,'' before explaining why he thought the "strange'' deal would have no relevance to other clubs in Britain and especially in the SPL.

He said: "I don't really know what to make of it. If you have that money and want to spend it then on you go. But I don't think it will distort the market.

"It's not like Rangers and Celtic are going to start putting up their bids to £3m. It doesn't work that way.

"We can't invent money that we haven't got. Everybody knows there is something going on that is rather strange. But even players and agents know it can only happen with one club.''

Strachan believes Kaka's reported fee is irrelevant in terms of assessing the player's ability.

"When Trevor Francis was sold for £1m years ago we asked, 'Is he worth £1m?','' he said.

terrific

"We always ask that when records are broken.

"It doesn't matter what he's worth, he is a terrific player.

"It's good to see good players although it's not good to play against them because he once killed us with a super goal.

"But it's interesting because the rest of this transfer market has been quite boring.''

Hoops defender Lee Naylor, who is battling to shrug off a knock in time for tomorrow's trip to Aberdeen, was sceptical about any possible impact Kaka may have at City.

The former Wolves player said: "I don't want to put prices on people, they've decided they want to go in with that and it's their choice. If they can do it, let them do it."
