Sink or swim time for Toffees' Gibson

ANY player who spends nine years at a football club will find it hard to let go but Darron Gibson had no choice in the end. Now it's sink or swim at Everton. He was something of a protected species in the past three seasons at Old Trafford; briefly hinting that he might just deliver on his huge potential before sinking back into Alex Ferguson's squad. He never played enough football and didn't get the message. I can understand why he stayed but he wasted at least one full season of his life and it's too short a career for that kind of gap.

I'm sure he won't see it that way and even has a few big medals to show for his time as a Manchester United player.

But now that he is out in the big, bad world and has to battle for a living, I hope he is reinvigorated by the experience and rises to the challenge.
