Shay to become loan arranger
Shay Given says he's aware that he may have to leave Stoke City on loan to stay in the frame for Ireland's Euro 2016 squad.
The 39-year-old is still recovering from surgery on a knee problem so was not in a position to seek a loan move before the close of the deadline yesterday, though he could still go out on loan to a lower-league club.
And the Euros in France is uppermost in his mind as he's unlikely to oust Jack Butland. "I've got the European Championships to get right for and hopefully play some games for Stoke, but that's not going to be easy because Jack has probably been our player of the season so far," he said.
"I've got to get match fit first, which will probably take a few weeks, then take it from there.
"The summer is massive for me and it's important I get match fit and play a few games to show them I'm ready to get on the plane to France.
"It might be here or it might be on loan for a couple of months. The important thing is to make sure the knee is right and then maybe have a chat with the gaffer."
Ex-Dundalk man Patrick Hoban joined Stevenage (who yesterday sacked manager Teddy Sheringham) on loan from Oxford United. "It makes sense for him to go out, play matches at Stevenage and hopefully get a few goals as well," says Oxford boss Michael Appelton.
U19 cap Connor Dimaio joins Chesterfield after he was released by Sheffield United.
