MARTIN O'Neill will hope to hear some good news from the Everton medical department this week following an injury scare over Seamus Coleman.

The Ireland defender (right) impressed for the Toffees in Saturday's 3-1 win over Chelsea but Coleman did not finish the game and was replaced with 13 minutes to go, due to a hamstring problem.

Coleman and Mo Besic were examined over the weekend but bosses O'Neill and Roberto Martinez hope that the injuries are not long-term.

"We'll have to assess Seamus and Mo and see how they are," Martinez explained. "But the important thing was that everyone who had to be alert and come on to the pitch was fully focused and I think the strength in the squad is starting to show now."

While there is time for Coleman to recover in time for next month's Euro 2016 double header against Germany and Poland, the fact that it's his hamstring which causing the problem will be a concern - Coleman sat out the qualifier against Gibraltar due to a hamstring complaint but returned to the Ireland side for the win over Georgia.

Meanwhile, O'Neill will be been heartened by the super display by Wes Hoolahan (far right) for Norwich City in their 3-1 win over Bournemouth.

"He was fantastic, he is capable of that," said Canaries boss Alex Neil after Hoolahan. man of the match display. "He isn't going to always have days when he has that much influence but when he does he is a joy to watch. He is a special player and he has been excellent since I came here.

"I think his performance was terrific, he has been a key figure in my team, I like creative players - Nathan Redmond has probably played his best football over the last six months, that type of player has a place in my team but they have to put the work-rate in as well."

In the Championship, Anthony Pilkington scored his first club goals in a year to help Cardiff City to a 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town.
