Rovers show form ahead of big cup semi-final
Shamrock Rovers had an easy night against the struggling Students at Tallaght Stadium last night, running out 3-0 winners over UCD.
Midfielder Ryan Brennan opened the scoring early for the home side in the seventh minute as he found the visitors' defence in disarray.
Brennan's darting off the ball run resulted in him managing to flick the ball home past keeper Conor O'Donnell.
Rovers winger Sean O'Connor double the lead in the 18th minute with a superb goal, cutting inside two tackles before curling a clash finish into the top corner of O'Donnell's goal.
A penalty in the 55th minute wrapped up the scoring, Gary McCabe converting from the spot after defender Hugh Douglas was judged to have handled the ball in the box.
Rovers' semi-final opponents, Derry City, warmed up for their FAI Cup semi-final with Shamrock Rovers on Sunday with a 1-1 draw against Bray Wanderers at the Carlisle Grounds last night.
Adam Mitchell put the Seagulls in front a minute into first-half added time by the seaside but mid-way through the second half the Ulster side were back on level terms.
Rory Patterson (right) was entrusted with spot-kick responsib-ilities and he duly brought City level from a penalty in the 61st minute.
Both sides finished the game with ten men.
