Rooney could miss England's Dublin date
WAYNE Rooney could miss England's trip to the Aviva Stadium on June 7 amid fears at Old Trafford that a serious knee injury has ended his season.
The England skipper limped out of Manchester United's humiliating hammering by Everton at the weekend.
Initial reports suggested a minor knock but a scan has revealed that Rooney's knee ligaments could take at least a month to repair.
Manager Louis van Gaal had better news about Robin van Persie who played for Manchester United's U21s, scored twice and hit the woodwork and now looks ready to take a full part in the final weeks of the season.
The Dutchman also appears to be making progress in nailing down David de Gea to a new deal although there are conflicting reports about Real Madrid's continuing interest in bringing him back to Spain.
Van Gaal has offered the Spanish net-minder an astonishing £200k-a-week salary package which would make him the best paid goalkeeper in the world but Madrid have not abandoned hope of signing him.
