Rodgers: We need to spend big again
BRENDAN Rodgers claims that Liverpool need to spend big yet again this summer if they are to make a push for honours next season.
A 1-1 draw against champions Chelsea yesterday leaves the Reds almost certain to miss out on the Champions League next term, Liverpool sitting six points behind fourth-placed Manchester United with two games to play and a vastly inferior goal difference.
Rodgers, who was handed a large transfer fund in each of his three seasons at Anfield, has filled some Reds fans with dread by warning that more spending is needed.
"We sit in fifth place and that's probably where we're at," Rodgers said.
"If we want to make the next steps, we need to find some acquisitions in the summer to help us do that.
"The players that I've worked with have been brilliant, given everything. Like at Chelsea, we've been very unfortunate.
Rodgers added that the LA-bound Steven Gerrard, who equalised at Stamford Bridge yesterday, will be tough to replace.
"He's a player that makes the big contributions when needed," Rodgers gushed. "I've said before he's irreplaceable but we need to find the solutions, one way or the other."
