Tom Rogic and James Forrest were thrilled to make history with Celtic after the club secured their 100th major trophy with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Aberdeen in the Scottish League Cup final.

Australia international Rogic scored a wonderful opener after 16 minutes to put the league leaders in front before man of the match Forrest doubled the Hoops' advantage before the half-time break.

Moussa Dembele added a third from the penalty spot after Anthony O'Connor brought down Forrest as Celtic wrapped up their landmark major trophy to the delight of the two influential midfielders.

Rogic said: "I think the fans deserve it, we deserve it as the playing squad because we have worked hard all season - it's no less than we deserve.

"We won 3-0 but it's not easy against Aberdeen.

"They have pushed us very close in the last few years but I feel this season we have gone up a level, but there are days like this that you enjoy playing football."

Forrest said: "We are absolutely delighted, we have done brilliantly to get to the final and obviously winning it is tremendous and we are going to enjoy it.

"I thought we were really strong in the first half - we started really well and that set us off for the game and I am delighted we managed to win it.

"We are absolutely delighted to win another trophy for this club and buzzing to have won it."

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers spoke of his pride after sealing his first piece of silverware as Celtic manager but insists there is room for improvement as his side look to secure all three domestic trophies come the end of the season. He said: "I'm obviously very privileged to manage Celtic.

"I'm happy for everyone; the players, the fans and I'm very lucky to be at a club that I know how they are feeling. Our display was very good - tactically the players were excellent, they pressed the game well and were the dominant team.

"There's still a lot of improvement in the team in terms of how we play, but we have something tangible to show for our work. I am very proud of the team today, great support again - it's brilliant for them."
