ROBIN van Persie is ready to join in Manchester United's resurgence and has sent a message of intent to Louis van Gaal: "Play me, I'm ready."

The Dutch striker resumed full training with Manchester United after an injury lay-off and has declared himself fit and able to play in time for the weekend's Manchester derby via Twitter.

"Back to training with the group today. Was a great session. Happy to be fit and able to play again. Looking forward to my next game!" he said.

With Manchester United closing in on second place and facing into a massive derby fixture at Old Trafford, van Gaal might have preferred if van Persie had kept the news of his fitness to himself.

Van Persie was publicly criticised by van Gaal in October but rebounded with some decent form before an ankle injury sidelined him in late February.

It was van Persie absence which forced van Gaal to push Marouane Fellaini into attack alongside Wayne Rooney and that change, among others, produced a significant improvement in form. Manchester United have only lost once while he has been in rehab.

Van Gaal described Fellaini as "undroppabloe" last week and expressed doubt about van Persie's readiness.

"The process has to give me signals he is ready for that. But I know that from my experience it is not like that and everybody is fit. So I have to compare players also."
