Republic of Ireland U21 star Josh Cullen wins new deal with West Ham
TEENAGE prospect Josh Cullen is celebrating on the double as he signed a new three-year contract with West Ham and was also called up to the Irish U21 squad for the first time.
Cullen, 19, made his Premier League debut for the Hammers in last week’s win over Liverpool and the London club underlined their value of the player by extending his deal until 2018. “The last couple of months have been fantastic and I just hope that it can continue,” said Cullen.
In other Irish-related moves before the UK window closed, Eoin Doyle went from Cardiff to Championship rivals Preston, Eoghan O’Connell moved from Celtic to Oldham on loan, Bournemouth loaned Josh O’Hanlon out to Chester while Newport County cancelled Kevin Feely’s contract.
West Ham were the big movers deadline day bringing in a quartet of new faces – with a fifth arrival still a possibility. The long-anticipated return of Alex Song on a second successive season-long loan from Barcelona was the first deal and he was soon joined by a trio of attacking talents.
Victor Moses also moved on a season-long loan deal having penned a new four-year contract with Chelsea beforehand, with Nikica Jelavic and Michail Antonio signing from Hull and Nottingham Forest.
