Republic of Ireland stopper David Forde: We need to beat Blackburn to have any chance of survival

DAVID Forde has told his Millwall team-mates to ignore any off-field matters and just focus on getting three points from their “must-win” game against Blackburn tonight.

Even if the Lions win their last three league games, that might not be enough to keep Forde’s club in the Championship as they are four points behind Rotherham, who are just outside the relegation zone. Rotherham could be docked three points for fielding an ineligible player but Forde says his side can’t rely on that for safety.

“You never know with the points deduction, with what’s going on at Rotherham,” Forde said.

“We’ve still got a chance and, if we can win tomorrow night, we’re back in business. You’re just looking for a fair outcome. But as things stand nothing has actually happened so we can’t really get too involved in it. We just have to get the three points and then a decision is made later,” added Forde, aware of relegation’s implications for the club.

“I think Millwall is at the minimum a Championship club. It’s disappointing that we find ourselves in this position but that’s life. I’m very optimistic. We have the experience of the last few years and I think we can do it.”
