Pressure builds on Pellegrini as Barca dump listless City out of Champions League
Sparkling football from the brilliant Lionel Messi and Neymar
THE Premier League's interest in the Champions League ended in the Nou Camp last night, when Barcelona gave Manchester City a lesson which stopped just short of humiliation.
The only reason Manuel Pellegrini's reputation is still in one piece was down to the inaccuracy of Barcelona's star-studded strike-force, the Nou Camp woodwork and the stellar efforts of Joe Hart.
Sparkling football from the brilliant Lionel Messi and Neymar kept Manchester City pinned in their own half for much of the game.
But Ivan Rakitic's 31st minute goal and a stunning display of goalkeeping from Hart ended up separating the teams.
Sergio Aguerro could have given Barcelona a worrying final quarter when he won a penalty for a trip by Gerard Pigue late in the game but Mark-Andre Ter Stegen saved the spot kick.
Manchester City boss Pellegrini (pictured) is now odds on to lose his job at the end of the season, short of a miraculous Premier League recovery and a dramatic collapse by Chelsea.
