Perfect end for Robbie
Keane scores a cracker in his final game for Oman victory
Robbie Keane waved goodbye in the best way possible at the Aviva, celebrating a 4-0 win for his beloved Ireland and a goal to put the icing on top.
Ireland's captain walked the pitch to a huge ovation after the final whistle and could barely hold back the tears as he paid tribute to the fans.
"Thanks for coming out to support me, It's been a wonderful 18 years," he said.
"I'm delighted the manager gave me the chance to do this and I was desperate to score one last time. It was important to finish on a high," added Ireland's now former captain.
Keane reserved his most heartfelt words for the massed ranks in the stands.
"To the best fans in the world I would like to say thanks very much. I look forward to sitting back and watching as fan. That's it now. God bless you all.
For Ireland boss Martin O'Neill the game was a perfect preparation for the opening blows in the World Cup qualifying series.
"I'm delighted for Robbie. He deserved a send-off like this and it worked out great," he said.
Robbie Brady kicked off the scoring with a sweet free-kick before Keane brought the house down with his brilliant volley having flicked the ball over an Omani defender to double the score.
Jon Walters hit two more to complete the scoring on a night for memories and celebration.
Hail Robbie Keane, an Ireland legend!
