THE FAI are still hopeful that Finnish-born prospect Patrick O'Shaughnessy could declare for Ireland - even though the highly-rated defender is still part of Finland's U21 squad.
The 19-year-old, who plays his club football for HJK in Finland, has been capped at U21 level by the Finns and was in action for them in a friendly game only last month.
His younger brother, Daniel, has also been capped at youth level by the Finns.
But Patrick also qualifies for Ireland as his dad, Robert, is a Dubliner and the family have made contact with the FAI to inform them that Patrick has not yet made a final decision on his inter-national allegiance and has not ruled out a permanent switch to the Irish set-up.
