Ireland international Callum O'Dowda says that his move from the bottom tier of English football to the Championship "tops off" a remarkable year in his career, writes Aidan Fitzmaurice.

The winger, who made his senior Ireland debut against Belarus in May, had been linked with a move away from Oxford United and only last week the club, newly-promoted from League Two, had said that O'Dowda was not for sale.

But Championship side Bristol City have come in with an offer and O'Dowda is in line for his debut tomorrow.

"It's been a massive year for me personally," said O'Dowda.

"Winning promotion with Oxford was just a dream come true really.

"I've also got called up for Republic of Ireland after initially being placed into a preliminary squad. Now this move to Bristol City tops it off."
