'Mick will be a hit'

Ireland international David McGoldrick believes that his club boss Mick McCarthy will be a success at Ipswich Town next season.

This term has been a disappointment for the Tractor Boys who never challenged for promotion but despite criticism from some fans, who reckoned that McCarthy's time at the club was up, McGoldrick is a fan.

"He'll be here next season," said McGoldrick. "He's probably been a victim of his own success. We're well behind the wages and transfer fees spent in this league, but we've finished ninth, sixth and seventh.

"This year it hasn't clicked for whatever reason and he's been getting stick, but he's a hard-nosed man and he will never hide from it. A lot of managers would have resigned or whatever, but I could never see him doing that. I know he will turn it around because he's a top manager and his record speaks for itself.

"Hopefully we can write this season off, finish on a bit of a high and go again."

Ipswich are 16th in the table with two games left.
