SUNDERLAND star James McClean is in danger of missing out on the Dublin friendly against the Czech Republic later this month because of an administrative delay.

The 22-year-old has been in outstanding form for Sunderland and Irish fans were hoping to see McClean make his Republic of Ireland debut against the Czechs in Lansdowne Road on February 29.

McClean insists he's ready to wait and answer Ireland's call.

However, he is unable to feature competitively for the Republic until the paperwork on his 'switch' from Northern Ireland is cleared by FIFA.

Giovanni Trapattoni has seen McClean play and is aware of his talent but the Irish boss has also made it clear that the players from the existing squad will get preference when it comes to a seat on the plane to Poland.

"I'm happy to be patient. If I get the call it will be a dream come true to represent Ireland but if that doesn't happen, I'll bide my time," McClean told the Evening Herald.

"My main focus is on Sunderland. Everything else will follow if I am doing the business for Sunderland."

McClean again insisted that there's no chance of him playing for Northern Ireland again.

"I've said it time and again, the matter's put to bed as far as I am concerned."
