JAMES McCARTHY is rapidly becoming the January transfer window's most wanted man, with Arsenal the latest to register interest.
But Wigan boss Roberto Martinez, who has admitted that it is only a matter of time until McCarthy is picked up, believes he will be able to keep his best player until the end of the season.
"We will always feel pleased with compliments towards our players. But James McCarthy, at 22, is still developing.
"The last thing he needs now is to be distracted from his work and the way he is developing.
"In January, we are not going to do anything apart from adding players that can help us become a bit stronger," he said.
Honour for Trap
GIOVANNI TRAPATTONI and Marco Tardelli were inducted into the Italian Football Hall of Fame yesterday and Ireland's manager was quick to acknowledge the debt he owes to his native country.
"I owe a great deal to Italian football, as when you win it's not just down to the tactician, but also the club behind him," said Trapattoni.
"Every result comes from great sacrifices, regardless of the team you are in charge of."
