An in-form James McCarthy believes that Everton will show their fighting spirit in tonight's Merseyside derby.

After a difficult time due to injury and loss of form, McCarthy has established himself back in the Everton side and played a key role in last week's win over Arsenal.

The Ireland midfielder hopes to taste more of the same at home to Liverpool this evening.

"It was a good team performance (against Arsenal), each and every one of us fought for each other, it was good to see that and hopefully we can carry that on into tonight's game," McCarthy said.

"It's a derby, the fans will come out in their numbers as always and within the squad we know it's a massive game and we look forward to it.

"The derby matches are always big games, it's your rivals and you want to get one over on them and we will be ready," added McCarthy, pleased with his own return to form.

"I felt good against Arsenal and we'll see what happens in the derby.

"I had been out of the team for a bit with injuries, and then the team was on a run before I could come back in.

"But it's good to be back and hopefully it continues."
