Chelsea have re-signed David Luiz on transfer deadline day after agreeing a £38million deal with Paris St Germain for the Brazil defender's return.

A statement by Chelsea, who sold Luiz to PSG for £50million in 2014, said the move was subject to the player agreeing personal terms and passing a medical. The Blues had already on deadline day completed a deal for Fiorentina's former Bolton defender Marcos Alonso, understood to be worth £23million.

Liverpool have offloaded Mario Balotelli to Nice to can draw a line under the Italian's miserable spell at Anfield.

The 26-year-old has been in talks with the French club for the last couple of days and the deal has been completed and all that is left is for the Merseysiders to receive the formal documentation.

Nice have got the Italy international, who scored just four goals in 28 appearances, for free but the Reds did not have to pay off Balotelli, which was a distinct possibility for a time as numerous European clubs turned down the chance to sign the striker.

WEST HAM have signed Spain defender Alvaro Arbeloa has signed for West Ham on a one-year contract.

Leicester have agreed a club-record fee to sign Sporting striker Islam Slimani. The forward is undergoing a medical and is set to join the Foxes after expressing his desire to move to the King Power Stadium. Sporting had been asking for in the region of £34million for Slimani.

Stoke City have signed Netherlands defender Bruno Martins Indi from Porto on a season-long loan with an option to make the move permanent, the Premier League club said.

The 24-year-old, who played at the 2014 World Cup when the Dutch finished third, made 23 appearances in the Portuguese league last season as Porto finished third in the standings. Stoke also signed 33-year-old Derby goalkeeper Lee Grant on loan until January to provide further competition for Jack Butland, who is currently injured, Shay Given and Jakob Haugaard.

TOTTENHAM signed goalkeeper Pau Lopez from Espanyol on a season-long loan.

The 33-year-old former Liverpool and Real Madrid player is the Hammers' 12th summer signing.

"I am really happy to be here in a great club in a great league."

BOURNEMOUTH signed Jack Wilshere on a season-long loan from Arsenal.

HULL CITY last night signed Manchester United midfielder James Weir.
