NEXT season's FAI Intermediate Cup final is heading for the Aviva Stadium, writes EAMON SCOTT.

Following strong lobbying from Intermediate clubs affiliated to the FAI, this weekend's AGM will be informed that along with the FAI Junior and Women's Senior FAI Cup finals, the second most prestigious cup competition under the jurisdiction of the FAI, will now be held at the Aviva Stadium

In an exclusive announcement to The Herald, long-standing Herald Striker partners, the Leinster Senior League stated: "The Leinster Senior League is delighted to announce, that following continuous lobbying and extensive pressure from the Officers and Executive Committee of the League through the FAI Domestic Committee, and with a strong and supportive mandate from our clubs including the support of the Ulster Senior League, the Football Association of Ireland will announce today that the 2014/2015 Intermediate Cup Final will be played in the Aviva Stadium.

"The Leinster Senior League would like to place on record our thanks to the CEO of the FAI John Delaney and Jim McConnell, Chairman of the Domestic Committee, for their support in this matter and we hope that the 2014/2015 Final will be the first of many great Intermediate Cup Finals at this magnificent venue."

Partnership

Meanwhile, the LSL has announced that they have formed a partnership with the FAI which will see the clubs of the LSL avail of the pitch developments taking place at FAI headquarters in Abbotstown.

The LSL statement read: "The Leinster Senior League wishes to announce exclusively to our member clubs that the League in partnership with the FAI has made a substantial investment in the development of the playing pitches and facilities currently under construction in the National Sports Campus, Abbotstown, Dublin 15.

"This agreement to run for 20 years will see the League invest in the future development of the game of Association Football at all grades in Abbotstown and secure the use of the playing pitches and facilities (under a contractural arrangment) along with our Office accomodation for the League and cement the League's status within the Irish football community."
