Lewandowski warning for Ireland

BAYERN Munich star Robert Lewandowski has warned rivals Ireland and Scotland that his Poland side are serious about snatching Euro 2016 qualification away from them, writes Aidan Fitzmaurice.

The Poles top Group D in the qualifiers following their 7-0 win over Gibraltar and after a poor campaign for Brazil 2014 where Poland, like Ireland, finished fourth in their group, key man Lewandowski says that Poland have sent out a warning to Martin O'Neill and Gordon Strachan.

"Scotland and Ireland are teams with different characteristics to Ukraine and Montenegro who, like us, missed out on qualification for the last World Cup," said Lewandowski, a €38million signing by Bayern.

"They don't play a technical game but it is a while since they played their long ball game too.

"They are rivals who we can compete with and we shouldn't be afraid to say that we want to qualify.

"We have the ability and the potential," claimed Lewandowski.
