Kenny sticks to a tight budget
NEW boss Stephen Kenny said his Shamrock Rovers side will be sticking to a strict budget this season -- but he unveiled a host of new signings as their pre-season training began at Tallaght Stadium yesterday.
Conor Powell, Graham Gartland, Colin Hawkins, Killian Brennan and Daryl Kavanagh have all joined the Hoops in the off-season.
"We haven't spent any money on players. We haven't bought any," Kenny said. "The players we bought were all on free transfers and all within the framework of our budget.
"We're also only paying 40-week contracts and we have moderate enough wages.
"There are one or two clubs paying higher wages. We're working within a wage structure and we're not looking to break that."
Kenny ran the rule over his new signings and he believes Gartland's SPL experience can be key for Rovers this season.
"He's competitive, he's left sided (and) he has experience of the SPL now, having been quite (an) impressive player here before," Kenny added.
The new boss also backed Kavanagh, a recruit from St Pats, to have a big impact on the Hoops' attacking options.
"He's something different, he can play up front or on the right, can take people on and create as well as score goals," he said.
