Keane's injury progress a boost for O'Neill

ROBBIE Keane (below) says he's on the way to full fitness after he managed another appearance for his club last night.

Having missed seven games for LA Galaxy with a groin injury, the Ireland captain has now made two sub appearances in the space of a week, Keane appearing off the bench in last night's 1-0 win over Salt Lake City, as the sight of Keane back in action is a boost for Ireland boss Martin O'Neill.

"It's always going to take a bit of time to certainly get to 100 percent, but these minutes certainly do help," Keane said.

"It was nice to get another win, that's the most important thing. I'll just get stronger and stronger. I literally just started training eight days ago so I've got in nearly 90 minutes in a week, after being out for seven weeks so I'm going to get stronger. I just continue to progress and keep working hard off the field, and on the training field, and getting the minutes in."

Galaxy boss Bruce Arena has confirmed that new signing Steven Gerrard will make his debut on July 11th.

Meanwhile, Kevin Doyle made his first start for MLS side Colorado Rapids last night, a 1-0 defeat away to Seattle Sounders.
