Keane misses spot kick

Republic of Ireland captain Robbie Keane missed a penalty as the Los Angeles Galaxy were pegged back to draw 1-1 with the San Jose Earthquakes in California.

Galaxy went in front after 28 minutes when Omar Gonzalez nodded home, before Keane (pictured) clattered the crossbar from the spot after the ball struck San Jose defender Jason Hernandez's hand in the area.

The Quakes made them pay when Chris Wondolowski prodded home at the far post in the 66th minute.

The miss was Keane's third failure from the penalty spot this season and Galaxy boss Bruce Arena said: "It has cost us a good number of points.

"We have the two best penalty kick takers in the league, in theory. You have to make penalties, but we didn't. It's part of the game and that's life."

"You can't complain about how we defended, but it's not good that we gave up a goal, given the fact that they weren't very dangerous."
