Deadly Doyle is the toast of Kentstown
Kentstown Rovers.................. 1
Kentstown Rovers crowned off their celebrations by taking the Division two title less than forty eight hours from a gala night commemerating thirty years in existence where the FAI Chief Executive John Delaney was on hand to make the many awards on behalf of the Club
His presence made a huge impression to the large gathering especially when he announced that he was making thirty complimentary spaces available to the Club for the prestigious opening Match v Argentina in the Aviva Atadium.
Kentstown manager Shane Kavanagh was mindful of the alcohol consumption of his players on the night, and it would appear his disciplined and responsible approach paid off as Kentstown appeared to adopt better in the sweltering heat that prevailed during the course of the match.
After a nervous start by both sides, it was Kells midfielder Ritchie Reilly got the first notable shot in after fifteen minutes, but Kentstown's keeper Keith Shields was on hand to confidently save his effort.
Gradually Kentstown began to impose themselves on the game, and their ace striker and now the veteran of the team David Doyle scored a screamer from a free kick on the half hour.
Try as they might Kells could not get an equalizer and late in the game Kentstown substitute seventeen years old David Bowens should have made the game safe, but his snap shot from five yards went wide of the post with the keeper stranded.
Kells-Blackwarter's cause was not helped when Warren Feehan was sent off after eighty minutes for a second yellow card offence.
After the match MDL Secretary Gerry Gorman presented the Divison two trophy to a jubilant captain Shaunie Doyle.
