Jose's the Real deal!
JOSE Mourinho has paved the way for a move from Inter Milan to Real Madrid after tonight’s Champions League final against Bayern Munich.
In the pre-match press conference at the Bernabéu last night, Mourinho indicated that he is preparing for the next stage of his managerial career. The Portuguese has won the Italian championship in both his seasons at the San Siro and is determined to leave on a high by leading Inter to their first European Cup for 45 years.
His expected move to Spain will alert English clubs, given the spending power of Real. Steven Gerrard is unsettled at Liverpool and may relish the opportunity to link up with a serial winner such as Mourinho, although the Inter coach was unwilling to go into specifics.
“Tomorrow after the game it will be a new life for everyone, not just me,” Mourinho said. “The World Cup, holidays on the beach, in the mountains or the countryside. Until the final whistle we cannot think about it. I cannot say after the match, maybe in three or four days.
“I’m not familiar with Real Madrid’s philosophy or mentality, I know their history, that’s all. They seem to have a new project now and need a new manager. But I must be frank, I’m not keen to learn anything about that today.”
Mourinho revealed that he was moved to tears by Inter’s second round win over his former club, Chelsea, in March and suggested that he would like to return to England after he has sampled life as a coach in Spain.
“At Stamford Bridge I cried because I realised my friends were out of the competition,” he said. “I have so many friends at Chelsea that I feel I still belong a little bit to them, and they belong a little bit to me.
“I’ve learnt everywhere I’ve been, in Italy, England and Portugal. If anyone asked my advice, I would say to them don’t spend your entire career in one country. It’s really beautiful to get experience of different cultures and countries. I would love to work in Spain and then go back to England.”
