Fortune favoured the brave. Martin O'Neill finally took the shackles off Ireland and after a second-half performance full of bravery, delivered the result of all time.

I thought it was going to be very difficult to have a go at Germany with the team O'Neill picked and that we might need a favour from Poland.

But Shane Long gave his boss a precious goal and even more precious three points. Ireland are back from the dead in this group and half-way to France.

In the first-half, we were depending on set-pieces for chances but we improved after half-time and when Wes Hoolahan got on the ball, things started to happen.

Robbie Brady too was a creative source but I thought Germany relaxed in the second-half, surprisingly, and paid the price.

It shows what happens when you get the ball down and play. Ireland asked questions and Joachim Loew didn't have the answers.

This makes an enormous difference to Irish football and O'Neill takes great credit for pulling off such an amazing result

I think we would have taken a draw if it had been offered but now we go to Warsaw knowing that a win will give us second place in the group.

After beating Germany, there is no reason why Ireland shouldn't go to Poland and win too.

Why not?
