Jack ready for Cup chance
Struggling Blackburn Rovers are ready to give a frustrated Jack Byrne the chance to prove his worth with the Ewood Park club this evening.
Dubliner Byrne, who spent last season on loan to Dutch side Cambuur from Manchester City, turned down a number of potential loan moves this season to sign for Blackburn on a season-long loan deal.
But the move has, to date, not worked out as planned, as Blackburn's form pushed them to last place in the Championship table while Byrne was out of favour.
An unused sub for their last four league games, current U21 cap Byrne is expected to return to the side for tonight's League Cup meeting with Leeds United. The Irish trio of Anthony Stokes (injured), Tommie Hoban and Derrick Williams (cup-tied) will miss the game but Byrne could profit as boss Coyle will put out a much-changed side.
"There will be eight or nine changes as there are a number of players who need an opportunity to play that have quality," says former Ireland cap Coyle.
