'Irish star Kelly has the cut of Iniesta' - Stam
Jaap Stam has hailed the Iniesta-like qualities of Reading star Liam Kelly, who is still celebrating his call-up to the Irish senior Ireland.
Kelly is enjoying the best spell of his Reading career under Stam this term and the Royals boss is more than impressed with the U21 cap who is in the provisional squad for next week's World Cup qualifier.
"He has certain qualities Iniesta also has. Of course, Iniesta has the experience and everything else, but if you look at the things Liam can do he certainly comes close to him," says Stam.
"It's not about Liam being at the same level as Iniesta, but if they tried him at Barcelona with their players around him he might also do well.
"Liam has been outstanding for us. He can pass, he can move he can go past people and defensively he's aggressive. These are qualities that nowadays big teams like to have," added Stam.
Meanwhile, Bournemouth striker Joe Quigley is ready to make his Ireland debut at U21 level after he was denied the opportunity by injury last year.
Quigley, on loan to Gillingham, was out for six months with a knee injury but is now fit again and was today named in the Ireland U21 squad for a game with Kosovo. "It's a great honour. It's my dad's side of the family so they are all very happy with the call-up," he said.
