Irish goalkeeper Brian Murphy pumped up at Pompey
IRISH keeper Brian Murphy admits he's relieved to be out of cold strorage after he became an instant success with new club Portsmouth.
The former U21 cap, released by QPR at the end of last season, only completed his move to Pompey on Friday and he was straight into the side for the opening day of the season, playing a role in a 3-0 win over Dagenham. That was Murphy's first league start in 18 months and he hopes for more game time at Fratton Park under Paul Cook.
"I've had a difficult few seasons at QPR where I haven't played much. We were in the Premier League and there have been guys like Rob Green and Julio Cesar in front of me.
"I was number two or number three and I probably stayed too long, so hopefully I can get the games that I need now.
"I only got the green light to play a few minutes before the deadline on Friday," added Murphy, who made his Pompey debut in front of a crowd of almost 17,000.
