Wenger smells blood ahead of FA Cup clash at Old Trafford as Van Gaal denies rift with Giggs
BULLISH Arsene Wenger has thrown down a FA Cup quarter-final challenge to Louis van Gaal and told the Manchester United manager that Arsenal are coming to Old Trafford on Monday to win.
Perhaps sensing some weakness in the Dutchman's position after he was forced to deny that there is a rift with his No. 2 Ryan Giggs, Wenger dismissed suggestions that Arsenal have a poor recent record in Manchester.
"We go to Manchester United to qualify and give absolutely everything with hard work and team effort. I don't believe too much in history. At the moment we are doing very well away from home so it's down to our effort."
Van Gaal is facing increasing criticism from within the Manchester United family and particularly from Paul Scholes who believes that Giggs will leave sooner or later to pursue his own management ambitions.
"You can see that. Over the next two or three years, will he have the patience to be a number two for that long? I'm not sure he will," said Scholes.
Van Gaal vehemently denied that there is any problem with his assistant.
"I'm very irritated because of this question because everyone can see we have a very good relationship and we work very hard together. I think it's a way of suggesting things. So then I'm very irritated."
